ABOUT GRANDPA'S POOL HOUSE

In fall of 2020, I bought my grandparents old house in hopes of bringing it back to life. The house was built by my grandpa, Vernon Christensen, in 1980. It is such an incredible house but as they got older, they were unable to keep up on needed repairs, and then the home sat vacant for 2 years. The property was completely overgrown, the rodents and spiders had taken over as tenants, and almost every system in the home had to be replaced.

Against my family’s cautious advice, I took on the challenge and started planning my escape from 13 years in the corporate world. I started this project with the background of a sociology degree and a mortgage career, and zero actual skills. And now, I have a few skills. But mostly, I’ve found success in this home renovation project because of the people I’ve hired to help me (see Thank You page).

Grandpa Vern and Grandma Gin were of the depression era, and it took many a dumpsters to get the place cleared out. They saved every church bulletin. Eventually, new floors, siding, chandeliers, and counters went in. Nearly every item in the home is 2nd hand, and was hauled up in my old red truck. Thank goodness for Facebook Marketplace and thrift stores. The house is decorated in 70s and 80s vintage kitsch style.
